Description

This 3.8TB U.3 NVMe solid state drive is built on the Micron 7500 and qualified by Cisco for UCS X-Series compute nodes. It uses the 2.5-inch, 15mm front-loading form factor and sits in the high-performance, medium-endurance (1X, 1 DWPD) tier, which suits virtualisation, database, analytics and hyperconverged vSAN workloads that need fast local storage.

The drive is a non-FIPS version with a 3.8TB capacity and an NVMe interface. Its sibling UCSX-NVB3T8M2V9 is the FIPS variant, so choose this SKU when FIPS validation is not required. The drive is powered from the compute node's front drive bay, so no separate power supply is needed, and no licence is required for the drive itself. Firmware is delivered through the Cisco Intersight and UCS server firmware bundle.

It is listed as a drive option for the UCS X210c M7 and UCS X215c M8 compute nodes, and for HyperFlex X-Series configurations. On the X210c M7, NVMe drives need a front mezzanine controller, either the UCSX-X10C-PT4F-D pass-through or the UCSX-X10C-RAIDF-D RAID controller. A RAID group needs two identical SSDs, while JBOD mode does not.

FAQs

Q: Does this SSD need a licence?
A: No licence is required for the drive itself. Firmware is delivered through the Cisco Intersight and UCS server firmware bundle.

Q: What does it need to run in an X210c M7?
A: NVMe drives in the X210c M7 need a front mezzanine controller, either the UCSX-X10C-PT4F-D pass-through or the UCSX-X10C-RAIDF-D RAID controller. Each RAID controller supports up to 6 U.3 NVMe drives.

Q: Which compute nodes is it listed for?
A: It is listed as a drive option for the Cisco UCS X210c M7 and UCS X215c M8 compute nodes, and in HyperFlex X210c M8 vSAN configurations.

Q: Do RAID groups need identical drives?
A: A RAID group needs two identical SSDs, while JBOD mode does not require identical drives.

Q: How does it differ from UCSX-NVB3T8M2V9?
A: Both are 3.8TB Micron 7500 medium-endurance (1 DWPD) drives. This SKU is the non-FIPS version and UCSX-NVB3T8M2V9 is the FIPS variant.
