Description

The Intel Xeon 6788P is an 86-core Xeon 6 Scalable (Granite Rapids) processor orderable from Cisco as a CPU option for UCS X-Series M8 compute nodes. It suits mission-critical enterprise applications, memory-intensive workloads, and bare-metal or virtualised environments on Cisco UCS X-Series modular systems.

This is the top-bin option in the Cisco X410c M8 CPU list, with 86 cores running at 2.0 GHz, a 350 W power rating and 336 MB of cache. Memory support is DDR5 RDIMM, with 8 channels per CPU and up to 2 DIMMs per channel. DDR5 runs at up to 6400 MT/s at one DIMM per channel and up to 5200 MT/s at two DIMMs per channel. Up to 3 UPI links at up to 24 GT/s provide multi-socket scaling.

The 6788P is listed as an available CPU for the UCS X410c M8 compute node (UCSX-410C-M8 and UCSX-410C-M8-U), housed in the UCS X9508 chassis. The X410c M8 is a 4-socket node and all four CPUs must be identical, so plan chassis power and cooling around four 350 W processors. It pairs with DDR5 RDIMMs in 64GB, 96GB, 128GB and 256GB capacities, for up to 16 TB per node using 64x 256 GB DIMMs. No licence is required for the CPU itself.

FAQs

Q: Does this CPU need a licence?
A: No licence is required for the CPU itself.

Q: Which Cisco compute node does it work with?
A: It is listed as an available CPU for the Cisco UCS X410c M8 compute node (UCSX-410C-M8 and UCSX-410C-M8-U), housed in the UCS X9508 chassis.

Q: How many CPUs does a node need?
A: The X410c M8 is a 4-socket node and all four CPUs must be identical, so you need four UCSX-CPU-I6788P per node.

Q: What power should I plan for?
A: Each CPU has a 350 W power rating (TDP). With four CPUs per X410c M8 node, plan the chassis power and cooling budget accordingly.

Q: What memory does it support?
A: It supports DDR5 RDIMMs in 64GB, 96GB, 128GB and 256GB capacities, running at up to 6400 MT/s at one DIMM per channel and up to 5200 MT/s at two DIMMs per channel.

Q: How does it differ from the other Xeon 6 options?
A: This is the top-bin option with 86 cores at 2.0 GHz and 350 W. Siblings such as the I6768P (64 cores, 2.4 GHz, 330 W), I6748P (48 cores, 2.5 GHz, 300 W) and I6738P (32 cores, 2.9 GHz, 270 W) trade core count for higher clocks and lower power.
