Description

The Cisco NCS 540 is a 1RU, temperature-hardened carrier-edge and aggregation router running Cisco IOS XR. It is built for service provider access and aggregation, including mobile backhaul, 5G transport, MPLS and Segment Routing edge, and timing-sensitive networks in indoor or outdoor cabinets.

This DC-powered variant provides 16 x 1GE/10GE SFP/SFP+ ports, 8 x 1GE/10GE/25GE SFP28 ports, 2 x 40GE/100GE QSFP28 ports and 4 x 1GE RJ-45 copper ports. It accepts a DC input of -40V to -72V with hot-swappable power supplies for 1+1 redundancy, and delivers up to 300 Mpps of forwarding performance from a 4-core 1.5GHz x86 CPU with 16GB DRAM and 128GB storage.

The chassis is 26 cm deep and weighs 5.9 kg, with an industrial operating range of -40°C to +70°C. An integrated GNSS receiver, SyncE and PTP support precise frequency and phase synchronisation. Software is licensed through Cisco IOS XR Right-to-Use or subscription tiers, and optics should be selected from the Cisco Transceiver Module Group compatibility matrix.
