Description

The NCS 540 is a 1RU, temperature-hardened, low-power carrier-class router for service-provider access and aggregation. It runs Cisco IOS XR and suits converged access roles such as mobile backhaul and 5G transport, metro Ethernet and business services, including indoor or outdoor cabinets that need a hardened, timing-capable platform.

This DC-powered variant provides 12x 1GE SFP ports, 12x 1GE/10GE SFP+ ports and 4x 1GE RJ45 copper ports, with up to 160 Mpps of forwarding performance. It is built around a 4-core 1.6GHz x86 CPU with 8GB DRAM and 32GB storage, and uses fixed dual redundant DC power supplies with a -40V to -72V DC input. Family power draw is under 100W minimum, under 200W typical and 250W maximum. The industrial operating range is -40C to +70C at 1,000 ft, and SyncE and PTP timing support is built in.

Software is licensed per 10G using the Cisco Access Essentials and Access Advantage tiers. Transceivers are listed in the Cisco TMG Compatibility Matrix, and the DC chassis uses the N540-X-BB-FAN fan tray and the N540-RCKMT-19-EGD, N540-RCKMT-23-EGD or N540-RKMT-ETSI-EGD rack kits.
