Description

The Cisco NCS 540 N540X-12Z16G-M-D is a fixed-configuration, 1RU IOS XR router from the Network Convergence System 540 medium-density family. It is built for mobile backhaul, 5G transport, cell-site and metro access deployments, including outdoor cabinets and street-level sites without environmental control, where an industrial-temperature design is needed.

This DC-powered variant provides 12x 1GE/10GE SFP+ ports, 12x 1GE SFP ports and 4x 1GE RJ-45 copper ports, with forwarding performance of up to 160 Mpps. A 4-core 1.6GHz x86 CPU with 8GB DRAM and 32GB storage runs Cisco IOS XR 7.0 or later. It uses fixed dual redundant DC power supplies with a -40V to -72V DC input and fixed redundant fans with side-to-side airflow. The operating range is -40C to +70C at 1,000 ft, and the chassis is 25 cm deep.

Precise timing support includes SyncE, IEEE 1588 PTP and an integrated GNSS receiver, with BITS, 1pps, 10MHz and ToD interfaces. Software is licensed on the NCS 540 flexible consumption model using per-10G Right-to-Use or subscription licences in Access Essentials and Access Advantage tiers. SFP and SFP+ optics should be selected from the Cisco TMG Compatibility Matrix for the NCS 540.
