Description

The NCS 540 is a 1RU service provider access and aggregation router running carrier-class Cisco IOS XR. This conformal coated variant is built for hot, humid conditions and suits indoor or outdoor cabinet deployments, including mobile backhaul and 5G transport where precise timing is required.

It provides 24x 1/10G SFP/SFP+ ports, 8x 1/10/25G SFP28 ports and 2x 40/100G QSFP28 ports, with up to 300 Mpps of forwarding performance. A 4-core 1.5 GHz x86 CPU, 16GB DRAM and 128GB of storage support the software load. Timing is handled by an integrated GNSS receiver, SyncE and PTP to Class B. The chassis has two hot-swappable AC/DC power supply bays for 1+1 redundancy and four modular fans in a 3+1 arrangement, with front-to-back airflow. The industrial temperature range is -40 to +70 C at 1,000 ft.

Feature licensing follows the Access Essentials and Access Advantage tiers, ordered per 10G as right-to-use or subscription licences. Compatible fan and rackmount parts include N540-X-FAN, N540-RCKMT-19, N540-RCKMT-23 and N540-RKMT-ETSI.
