Description

The Cisco NCS 540 Fronthaul N540-FH-AGG-SYS is a 1RU aggregation router built for 5G and 4G LTE fronthaul and mid-haul transport in Cloud RAN and Centralised RAN designs. It aggregates CPRI, eCPRI and Ethernet traffic from cell-site routers and radio units, and suits indoor or protected-cabinet deployments as part of a Converged SDN Transport architecture. It runs Cisco IOS XR.

The front panel provides 24 universal 1/10/25G ports that can carry CPRI option 3-8, eCPRI or Ethernet, plus 4x 100G ports, with throughput of up to 900 Gbps. An FPGA-extended forwarding plane keeps forwarding latency typically under 10 microseconds. An 8-core 1.7 GHz x86 CPU with 8 GB DRAM and 32 GB storage runs the control plane. Timing is handled by SyncE and IEEE 1588 PTP, with G.8273.2 Class B/C support and 1pps, 10MHz, ToD and GNSS antenna interfaces.

This C-Temp aggregation SKU uses two hot-swappable N540-PWR750 power supplies in 1+1 redundancy (AC or DC) and six modular fans in 5+1 redundancy with front-to-back airflow. Maximum power draw is 700 W. It supports optics listed in the Cisco TMG Compatibility Matrix for NCS 540 and the N540 rack kit options.

FAQs

Q: Which power supplies does this router use?
A: It takes two hot-swappable N540-PWR750 power supplies in 1+1 redundancy, N540-PWR750-A for AC or N540-PWR750-D for DC. AC input is 90-265 V, 50-60 Hz and DC input is -40 to -72 V.

Q: What software and licensing does it run?
A: It runs Cisco IOS XR. Access Essentials and Access Advantage software Right-to-Use licences are sold per 10G, for example ESS-AC-10G-RTU-1 and ADV-AC-10G-RTU-1.

Q: What can the 24 universal ports carry?
A: Each universal port runs at 1G, 10G or 25G and can carry CPRI (option 3-8), eCPRI or standard Ethernet traffic, with 802.1Qbu support.

Q: Which optics and accessories does it work with?
A: Supported transceivers are listed in the Cisco TMG Compatibility Matrix for NCS 540. Rack kits are N540-RKM-19-FHA, N540-RKM-23-FHA, N540-RKM-ETSI-FHA and N540-RKM-4PST-FHA, with the N540-CBL-BRKT-FHA cable management bracket and N540-FAN-FHA fan assembly.

Q: What timing options does it support?
A: It supports SyncE with ESMC and IEEE 1588 PTP, including G.8273.2 Class B/C. It provides 1pps, 10MHz, ToD and GNSS antenna interfaces.
