Description

The NCS 540 is a fixed 1RU service-provider access and aggregation router, built for converged access, mobile backhaul and xHaul, and business and residential service delivery. Its hardened design suits space-constrained and outdoor cabinets that need precise frequency and phase/time synchronisation.

This chassis provides 24x 1/10GE SFP+ ports, 8x 1/10/25GE SFP28 ports and 2x 40/100GE QSFP28 ports, with up to 300 Mpps of forwarding performance. It has a 4-core 1.5 GHz x86 CPU, 16 GB DRAM and 128 GB of storage, and runs Cisco IOS XR. It takes two hot-swappable AC/DC power supplies in a 1+1 arrangement and four modular fans in a 3+1 arrangement, with front-to-back airflow. Operating temperature is rated from -40C to +70C, derated with altitude. This is the non-conformal-coated variant.

IOS XR software is licensed in Access Essentials and Access Advantage tiers, sold per 10G as Right-to-Use or as term-based subscriptions. Supported optics are listed in the Cisco Transceiver Module Group Compatibility Matrix for the NCS 540 series.
