Description

The Cisco NCS 540 N540-28Z4C-SYS-D is a compact 1RU aggregation router from the Network Convergence System 540 medium density range. It is built for service provider access and aggregation, including mobile backhaul and metro or edge aggregation, and runs Cisco IOS XR. Its temperature-hardened, low-power design suits both indoor and outdoor deployments.

This DC-powered variant provides 28 x 1GE/10GE SFP+ ports and 4 x 40GE/100GE QSFP28 ports, with up to 300 Mpps of forwarding performance. It uses fixed dual redundant DC power supplies with a -40V to -72V input range, fixed redundant fans and front-to-back airflow. The 8-core 1.7GHz x86 CPU is backed by 8GB DRAM and 32GB storage. It operates across a commercial temperature range of -5°C to +55°C, and the chassis is 25 cm deep and weighs 4.7 kg.

Feature licences are sold separately as per-10G Right-to-Use or subscription licences in Access Essentials and Access Advantage tiers. Supported optics are listed in the Cisco Transceiver Module Group compatibility matrix. Rackmount kits for the DC variant include N540-RCKMT-19-ACD, N540-RCKMT-23-ACD and N540-RKMT-ETSI-ACD.
