Description

The NCS 540 is a fixed 1RU, temperature-hardened service provider router from the Cisco Network Convergence System 540 family. It is built for cost-effective converged access and aggregation, including mobile backhaul and business and entertainment services, and it suits both indoor and outdoor cabinet deployments. It runs Cisco IOS XR.

This AC-powered model provides 28 x 1GE/10GE ports and 4 x 40GE/100GE ports, with up to 300 Mpps of forwarding performance. It is driven by an 8-core 1.7GHz x86 CPU with 8GB DRAM and 32GB of storage. Power comes from a fixed single AC supply accepting 90-265V AC at 50-60 Hz, and cooling is handled by fixed redundant fans with front-to-back airflow. Timing support includes SyncE, PTP and BITS, 1pps, 10MHz and ToD interfaces with Class B timing. The chassis is 1RU, 25 cm deep and weighs 4.7 kg, with operation from -5 to 55 C at 6,000 ft. Software is licensed through Cisco Access Essentials or Access Advantage tiers.

Transceivers for the 10G, 40G and 100G ports are listed in the Cisco TMG Compatibility Matrix. Rackmount kits and a cable bracket are available for the AC chassis.
