Description

The Cisco NCS 540 Medium Density router is a fixed 1RU, temperature-hardened access router built for service provider access and aggregation networks. It suits mobile backhaul and 5G transport, and the compact 25 cm depth and NEBS compliance make it a fit for indoor and outdoor cabinet deployments. It runs carrier-class Cisco IOS XR.

This DC-powered SKU provides 20x 1GE SFP ports and 12x 1GE/10GE SFP+ ports, with up to 160 Mpps of forwarding performance. It is powered by fixed dual redundant DC supplies accepting a worldwide ranging -40V to -72V input, and uses fixed redundant fans with front-to-back airflow. A 4-core 1.6GHz x86 CPU, 8GB DRAM and 32GB storage support IOS XR programmability, telemetry and automation. Precise synchronisation is supported through SyncE and PTP (Class B), with BITS, 1pps, 10MHz and ToD interfaces.

Software is Cisco IOS XR with Right-to-Use or Smart/Subscription licensing per 10G, in Access Essentials or Access Advantage tiers. Rack mount options for the DC variant include N540-RCKMT-19-CLD, N540-RCKMT-23-CLD and N540-RKMT-ETSI-CLD, and a wall mount kit is available as N540-WALLMT-CLA.
