Description

The NCS 540 is a 1RU, short-depth (25 cm) fixed-configuration service provider access and aggregation router. It runs Cisco IOS XR and is aimed at cost-effective mobile backhaul, 5G transport and access deployments, including indoor or outdoor cabinets where short depth and temperature hardening are required.

This AC-powered variant provides 20 x 1GE SFP ports and 12 x 1GE/10GE SFP/SFP+ ports, with forwarding performance of up to 160 Mpps. A 4-core 1.6 GHz x86 CPU is paired with 8 GB DRAM and 32 GB storage. It uses a single fixed AC power supply (90-265 V AC, 50-60 Hz) with fixed redundant fans and front-to-back airflow. Timing support includes SyncE, PTP (Class B) and BITS, 1pps, 10MHz and ToD interfaces.

Software is licensed through Right-to-Use Access Essentials or Access Advantage licences. Supported SFP and SFP+ optics are listed in the Cisco Transceiver Module Group compatibility matrix, and rack, wall and cable bracket accessories are available for the AC variant.
