Description

The ISR 4451-X is a modular branch-office router from the Cisco 4000 family of Integrated Services Routers. It runs Cisco IOS XE on a multicore architecture with separate control, data and services planes, and it supports the embedded Cisco Catalyst SD-WAN solution. It suits mid-to-large branch WAN edge deployments that need secure routing, voice and unified communications, and application-aware services.

On the hardware side it provides 4 onboard 10/100/1000 ports, 3 NIM slots, 2 enhanced service module slots (or 1 double-wide slot) and 1 onboard ISC slot for PVDM4 DSP modules. This SKU is the Base licence variant with 8 GB flash and 4 GB control plane DRAM, plus 2 GB of data plane DRAM. Default aggregate throughput is 1 Gbps, which can be raised to 2 Gbps with a Performance licence or to over 4 Gbps (CEF-only) with a Boost licence. All I/O modules support online insertion and removal.

DRAM expands to 16 GB on the control and services plane and flash expands to 32 GB. The chassis is 2RU and uses an internal power supply with AC, DC and PoE options. Security features include secure boot, code signing and hardware authentication.

Q: What licence does this SKU include, and can throughput be increased?
A: This SKU is the Base licence variant running the Cisco IOS XE image, with 1 Gbps default aggregate throughput. A Performance licence raises this to 2 Gbps and a Boost licence to over 4 Gbps (CEF-only). Security, Application Experience and Unified Communications packages are separate licences.

Q: Which modules does the ISR 4451-X support?

Q: What power options and PoE capacity are available?
