Description

The ISR 4431 is a 1RU modular branch-office WAN router from Cisco's ISR 4000 family. It suits medium-sized branch and regional offices that need a secure WAN edge, with the platform positioned for SD-WAN, encryption, traffic management, WAN optimisation and voice.

This SKU is the base chassis with the IP Base feature set and four onboard 10/100/1000 ports. It has three NIM slots and one onboard ISC slot, with online insertion and removal for I/O modules, and no SM-X service-module slots. Default aggregate throughput is 500 Mbps, which can be raised to 1 Gbps with the FL-44-PERF-K9 performance licence. The FL-44-BOOST-K9 licence lifts CEF-only throughput above 4 Gbps. Memory is 8 GB of flash (expandable to 32 GB), 2 GB of data-plane DRAM and 4 GB of control-plane DRAM (expandable to 16 GB).

Power comes from an internal AC, DC or PoE supply, with a redundant supply option. Typical draw with no modules is 65 W. The router supports Cisco Catalyst SD-WAN features through IOS XE, Smart Licensing from IOS-XE 16.6.1, and optional Cisco DNA Essentials and Advantage subscriptions.

FAQs

Q: Which licence does this router ship with?
A: ISR4431/K9 uses the IP Base feature set with 500 Mbps default aggregate throughput. Optional feature bundles (SEC, Voice, AX, VSEC, AXV) and Cisco DNA Essentials or Advantage subscriptions are available separately.

Q: Can the throughput be increased beyond 500 Mbps?
A: Yes. The FL-44-PERF-K9 performance licence raises aggregate throughput to 1 Gbps, and the FL-44-BOOST-K9 boost licence provides over 4 Gbps of CEF-only throughput. No hardware change is needed.

Q: What modules does it accept?
A: It has three NIM slots and one onboard ISC slot for Cisco NIMs. It has no SM-X service-module slots, so SM-X modules are not supported.

Q: What power supply options are available?
A: The ISR 4431 takes internal AC, DC or PoE power supplies, and a redundant supply is supported. AC input is 100 to 240 VAC. The optional PoE supply provides 250 W of endpoint PoE with redundancy, or 500 W with PoE boost and no redundancy.

Q: Can the memory be upgraded?
A: Flash can be expanded from 8 GB to 32 GB, and control-plane DRAM from 4 GB to 16 GB. Data-plane DRAM is fixed at 2 GB.
