Description

The Cisco ISR 4431 is a modular 1RU branch-office WAN router from the ISR 4000 family, built for branch-in-a-box deployments that combine routing, integrated services and Catalyst SD-WAN across MPLS, VPN and Internet links. This SKU is the DNA subscription bundle.

It provides four onboard 10/100/1000 WAN/LAN ports, with RJ-45 and SFP-based options, three NIM slots, one onboard ISC slot and OIR support for all I/O modules. Default aggregate throughput is 500 Mbps, which can be raised to 1 Gbps with the Performance licence, and the Boost licence lifts CEF-only throughput to over 4 Gbps through software alone. Memory ships as 8 GB flash (up to 32 GB) with 4 GB control and services plane DRAM (up to 16 GB) and 2 GB data plane DRAM.

Power comes from an internal AC, DC or PoE supply with redundant supply support, and the optional PoE supply can power endpoints such as cellular gateways. The router runs Cisco IOS XE, is managed through Catalyst SD-WAN and Catalyst Center, and takes optional LTE through NIM or external cellular modules.

FAQs

Q: What does the DNA subscription provide on this router?
A: It runs in Autonomous mode with a perpetual licence for regular routing, or in Controller mode for Catalyst SD-WAN deployments, which is term-based and requires renewal. DNA Essentials or DNA Advantage supports Catalyst Center.

Q: What throughput does it deliver?
A: Default aggregate throughput is 500 Mbps. The Performance licence raises this to 1 Gbps, and the Boost licence delivers over 4 Gbps of CEF-only throughput, all through software.

Q: What modules does the ISR 4431 accept?
A: It has three NIM slots and no SM-X service-module slots. It also has one onboard ISC slot and supports OIR for all I/O modules.

Q: What power options are available?
A: It takes an internal AC, DC or PoE power supply, with redundant supply support. The optional PoE supply provides up to 250 W of endpoint PoE with redundancy, or 500 W with PoE boost and no redundancy.

Q: Can it support LTE?
A: Yes. Optional LTE is added through NIM or external cellular modules, and the front-panel GE ports can supply PoE+ to an external cellular gateway.
