Description

The ISR 4431 is a modular branch-office WAN router from the Cisco 4000 Series Integrated Services Routers, running IOS XE. This AX bundle suits distributed enterprise branches that need application-aware routing, monitoring and secure connectivity to data centres and public clouds over MPLS, VPN and Internet links.

It provides 4 x 10/100/1000 RJ-45 WAN/LAN ports plus 4 x SFP-based ports, three NIM slots with online insertion and removal, and one onboard ISC slot. Throughput is licence-governed: 500 Mbps by default, 1 Gbps with the Performance licence and over 4 Gbps (CEF only) with the Boost licence. Default memory is 4 GB control/services plane DRAM (up to 16 GB) and 2 GB data plane DRAM, with 8 GB flash expandable to 32 GB. The AX bundle includes the Application Experience (APP) and Security (SEC) technology package licences on top of IP Base, and this SKU carries no UC or voice licensing.

The 1RU, rack-mountable chassis supports internal AC, DC or PoE power supply options with redundancy. It works with the Cisco 4000 Series NIM modules and PVDM options.

Q: Which licences are included in the AX bundle?
A: The ISR4431-AX/K9 includes the Application Experience (APP) and Security (SEC) technology packages on top of IP Base. It does not include UC or voice licensing.

Q: How is throughput increased beyond the default?
A: Throughput is licence-governed. The default is 500 Mbps, the Performance licence raises it to 1 Gbps, and the Boost licence delivers over 4 Gbps (CEF only).

Q: What power supply options does this router support?
A: It supports internal AC, DC and PoE power supplies, with redundancy. AC input is 100 to 240 VAC at 47 to 63 Hz, and the PoE supply provides up to 250 W of endpoint power with redundancy or 500 W in boost mode.

Q: How does it differ from the ISR4431-SEC/K9 and ISR4431-AXV/K9?
A: The AX bundle adds both the Application Experience and Security licences without voice. The SEC version covers security only, and the AXV version adds UC and voice licensing.
