Description

The ISR 4331 DC is a branch-office Integrated Services Router from the Cisco 4000 Series ISR family. This ISR4331-DC/K9 variant is powered by an internal DC supply instead of AC, which suits telecom and carrier-style sites with a DC power plant and NEBS environments. It runs Cisco IOS XE and supports Catalyst SD-WAN at the WAN edge.

It has 3 onboard 10/100/1000 WAN/LAN ports, 2 NIM slots and 1 enhanced service-module (SM-X) slot. Aggregate throughput is 100 Mbps by default, 300 Mbps with the Performance licence and over 2 Gbps CEF-only with the Boost licence, so capacity can grow by licence upgrade without a hardware change. It ships with 4 GB DRAM and 4 GB flash, expandable to 16 GB of each. The DC supply takes 24-60 V input, typical draw is 42 W with no modules and PoE is not supported. This SKU uses the IP Base feature set, with optional Security, Application Experience and Cisco DNA licensing available.

The NIM and SM-X slots accept modules such as the NIM-LTEA-EA for LTE, NIM-4FXS, NIM-2FXS/4FXO, NIM-4MFT-T1/E1, NIM-4BRI, SM-X-PVDM and SM-X-24FXS/4FXO. Cellular capability is added through an LTE NIM and is not built in.

FAQs

Q: Which licence tier does the ISR4331-DC/K9 use?
A: It uses the IP Base feature set with 100 Mbps default aggregate throughput. The Performance licence (FL-4330-PERF-K9) raises this to 300 Mbps and the Boost licence raises CEF-only throughput to over 2 Gbps. Security, Application Experience and Cisco DNA subscriptions are optional.

Q: What power does the DC model need and does it support PoE?
A: It has an internal DC supply with a 24-60 V input at 14-5 A. Typical draw is 42 W with no modules and maximum is 250 W. PoE is not supported on the 4331-DC and there is no redundant power supply option.

Q: Which modules does it work with?
A: It accepts Cisco NIM modules such as NIM-LTEA-EA, NIM-4FXS, NIM-2FXS/4FXO, NIM-4MFT-T1/E1 and NIM-4BRI, and SM-X modules such as SM-X-PVDM and SM-X-24FXS/4FXO. Memory and flash can be upgraded to 16 GB each.

Q: Does it support LTE?
A: LTE is not built in. It is added by installing an LTE NIM such as the NIM-LTEA-EA in one of the two NIM slots.

Q: How does it differ from the AC model?
A: The ISR4331-DC/K9 has an internal 24-60 V DC power supply and an extended short-term operating rating of 0 to 55 C for NEBS-style sites. The AC model, ISR4331/K9, is a separate SKU with AC and PoE power options.
