Description

The ISR 4221 is a compact 1RU branch-office Integrated Services Router from the Cisco 4000 Family, running modular IOS XE with Catalyst SD-WAN capability. It suits small branch and remote offices that need WAN edge routing and SD-WAN connectivity over MPLS, VPN and Internet links, with lean on-site IT resources.

This SKU has two onboard 10/100/1000 RJ-45 ports plus one SFP-based port, two NIM slots, 8GB fixed flash and 4GB fixed DDR3 ECC DRAM. Aggregate throughput is 35 Mbps by default, upgradable to 75 Mbps with a Performance licence or 1.2 Gbps (CEF only) with a Boost licence. It ships with the IP Base feature set, and Security features need an optional IOS XE Security licence. This SKU does not support UC (voice) bundles.

The two NIM slots accept Cisco 4000 Series NIMs, including cellular/LTE and SSD/HDD storage modules, each with a single 1 Gbps connection to the route processor. Power is by external AC adapter only (100-240 VAC, 90 W maximum), with no PoE. It can be used on a desktop, wall-mounted or fitted to a 19in rack with the optional rack-mount kit.

Q: Which licence does the ISR4221/K9 ship with?
A: It ships with the IP Base feature set. Default aggregate throughput is 35 Mbps, which can be raised to 75 Mbps with a Performance licence or to 1.2 Gbps (CEF only) with a Boost licence. Security features need an optional IOS XE Security licence.

Q: Does the ISR4221/K9 support PoE?
A: No. This router has no PoE support and is powered by an external AC adapter only, 100-240 VAC, with a 90 W maximum draw.

Q: What modules fit the two NIM slots?
A: The two NIM slots accept Cisco 4000 Series NIMs, including cellular/LTE NIMs and SSD/HDD storage NIMs. Each slot has a single 1 Gbps connection to the route processor. There are no SM-X service-module slots and no ISC slot for PVDM4 voice modules.

Q: Can the memory or flash be upgraded?
A: No. Flash is fixed at 8GB and DRAM is fixed at 4GB on this SKU. The ISR4221X/K9 variant has 8GB DRAM.

Q: Does this SKU support voice (UC) bundles?
A: No. The ISR4221/K9 does not support UC voice bundles, so there are no V, VSEC or AXV bundles for this SKU.
