Description

The ISR 4221 is a compact 1RU branch router from the Cisco 4000 Series Integrated Services Routers, running modular IOS XE. It is aimed at small and mid-size branch or remote-site WAN edges that need routing, secure VPN, application-aware services and SD-WAN with modular LTE or other WAN links.

This AX bundle SKU includes the Application Experience software package with the Security feature set. Application Experience adds advanced routing, application visibility and network monitoring, while the Security licence enables IPsec WAN link security and VPN services. Aggregate throughput is 35 Mbps by default and rises to 75 Mbps with the Performance licence, with a CEF-only boost throughput of 1.2 Gbps. Hardware includes 2 onboard 10/100/1000 RJ-45 ports, 1 SFP-based port, 2 NIM slots, 4 GB DDR3 ECC memory and 8 GB of flash. It is powered by an external AC supply and does not support PoE.

The two NIM slots accept modules from the 4000 Family NIM portfolio, such as 4G LTE, serial, T1/E1 and xDSL, so WAN options can be matched to each site. Embedded Catalyst SD-WAN capability is available on IOS XE, and the router supports optional 19-inch rack mounting as well as wall mounting.

FAQs

Q: What licensing does the ISR4221-AX/K9 include?
A: The AX bundle includes the Application Experience software package with the Security feature set, which enables IPsec WAN link security and VPN services. The Performance licence raises aggregate throughput from 35 Mbps to 75 Mbps.

Q: Does the ISR 4221 support PoE?
A: No. It does not support PoE and uses a single external AC power supply (100 to 240 VAC) with no redundant PSU option. Typical draw is 24 W with no modules and maximum is 90 W.
