Description

The Cisco Wireless 9172I is an indoor Wi-Fi 7 (802.11be) access point with internal omnidirectional antennas, built for low to moderate device density. It suits retail stores, healthcare clinics, boutique hotels, student housing, remote work hubs and distributed sites such as satellite offices, regional branches and logistics hubs. This -RTG Ready To Go global model works in any regulatory domain and ships as a tri-radio 2.4/5/6 GHz unit.

All three radios run Wi-Fi 7 at 2x2:2, with PHY data rates up to 9 Gbps (2x2 320 MHz on 6 GHz, 2x2 160 MHz on 5 GHz). When the 6 GHz band is disabled, the 5 GHz radio can run 4x4 alongside the 2.4 GHz 2x2 radio. A single 100M/1G/2.5G Multigigabit Ethernet port provides the uplink. It is powered by 802.3bt class 5 (32 W) or 802.3at (25.5 W) PoE, with typical draw of about 11 to 12 W on 802.3at. A dedicated scan/aux radio and a BLE IoT radio are built in. Cisco Wireless Essentials or Wireless Advantage subscription licensing is purchased separately.

It is managed by Catalyst 9800 Series Wireless Controllers running IOS XE 17.15.2b or later, by Catalyst 9000 switches with Embedded Wireless Controller in SDA mode, or from the Meraki cloud. Existing AIR-AP-BRACKET-1 and AIR-AP-BRACKET-2 brackets can be reused.

FAQs

Q: Does the CW9172I-RTG need a licence or subscription?
A: Yes. Cisco Wi-Fi 7 access points require a Cisco Networking Subscription, either Cisco Wireless Essentials or Cisco Wireless Advantage. It is purchased separately from the hardware. Meraki cloud management also needs an active Meraki subscription.

Q: How is it powered?
A: It runs from 802.3bt class 5 PoE (32 W at the device) for full features including USB, or 802.3at PoE+ (25.5 W). 802.3af is supported only in a reduced 1x1 2.4 GHz mode. A DC power input is also available.

Q: Which controllers and management platforms does it work with?
A: It is managed by Catalyst 9800 Series Wireless Controllers (physical or virtual) on IOS XE 17.15.2b or later, by Catalyst 9000 switches with Embedded Wireless Controller in SDA mode, or from the Meraki cloud. Prime Infrastructure is not supported.

Q: Can I claim it on my Meraki dashboard?
A: Yes. Every Meraki device XS Network Tech supplies can be claimed on your Meraki dashboard.

Q: Which mounting brackets does it use?
A: It uses the existing Cisco brackets AIR-AP-BRACKET-1 or AIR-AP-BRACKET-2, so earlier mounting hardware can be reused.
