Description

The Cisco 5940 Embedded Services Router is a ruggedised 3U CompactPCI router card built for mobile and embedded networks. It suits public safety, transportation, defence and energy deployments, including first-responder and armoured vehicles, passenger and freight rail, outdoor hardened cabinets and border security systems.

This air-cooled version provides four 10/100/1000 routed Gigabit Ethernet ports and one RS-232 console port, with 1 GB of DRAM and 256 MB of flash memory. An onboard hardware encryption processor handles IPsec, SSL/TLS, SRTP, 3DES, AES and IKE, offloading encryption work from the router engine. The Advanced Enterprise Cisco IOS Software image (c5940-adventerprisek9-mz) is the image for this SKU, and the air-cooled card operates from -18 to 52 C.

The card follows the 3U, 4HP CompactPCI (PICMG 2.0 R3.0) form factor at roughly 100 x 160 mm, and mounts in standard CPCI enclosures as well as custom enclosures from systems integrators. The optional CISCO5940-RTM rear transition module provides standard RJ-45 access to the I/O connectors.
