Description

The Cisco 5940 Embedded Services Router is a ruggedised 3U CompactPCI router card from the 5900 Series, built for mobile and embedded networks in harsh environments. It suits public safety, transportation, defence and energy deployments, including rugged and vehicle-mounted systems.

This SKU is the conduction-cooled card bundled with the 5940 rear transition module (RTM), which provides RJ-45 access to the I/O connectors. It offers four 10/100/1000 routed Gigabit Ethernet ports and an RS-232 console port, with 1 GB DRAM and 256 MB flash. Onboard hardware encryption handles IPsec, SSL/TLS, SRTP, 3DES, AES and IKE, offloading crypto work from the router engine. The conduction-cooled design is rated for operation from -40 to 85 C.

The SKU includes the Cisco 5940 Advanced Enterprise Services Cisco IOS Software image. The card follows the 3U CompactPCI (PICMG 2.0 R3.0) form factor for use in standard commercial or custom enclosures from Cisco partners and integrators.
