Description

The Cisco ISR 2921 is a modular branch-office router from the Cisco 2900 Series Integrated Services Routers (ISR G2). This Security Bundle pairs the 2921 chassis with the Security (SEC) technology package licence PAK, making it suited to secure WAN edge routing with VPN and firewall features at small and medium enterprise branches, with optional voice and unified communications services.

The router provides three onboard 10/100/1000 Gigabit Ethernet WAN/LAN routed ports, one of which can use an SFP in place of RJ-45. Expansion is handled by four EHWIC slots (two double-wide EHWIC slots possible), one ISM slot, three onboard DSP (PVDM3) slots and a service module slot. It ships with 512 MB DDR2 ECC DRAM by default, expandable with a single ECC UDIMM slot, and includes two external CompactFlash slots of up to 4 GB each, two USB Type A ports, RJ-45 and mini-USB console ports and an RJ-45 auxiliary port. Embedded hardware-based cryptography acceleration supports VPN throughput.

The SEC licence PAK enables the security feature set on the IOS Universal image. The router accepts EHWIC, HWIC, WIC, VIC and VWIC interface cards, and DRAM can be upgraded with 512 MB, 1 GB or 2 GB ECC UDIMMs.

FAQs

Q: What licence does this bundle include?
A: It includes the Security (SEC) technology package licence PAK, which enables the security feature set on the IOS Universal image (C2900-UNIVERSALK9). Other technology packages, such as UC and Data, are separate.

Q: Can I add more memory?
A: Yes. It ships with 512 MB DDR2 ECC DRAM and has one expansion slot that accepts 512 MB, 1 GB or 2 GB ECC UDIMMs.

Q: Which interface cards does it accept?
A: The EHWIC slots accept EHWIC, HWIC, WIC, VIC and VWIC cards. It also supports one service module, one ISM and up to three PVDM3 DSP modules.

Q: Does it support PoE for modules?
A: PoE for EHWIC or service modules needs an optional PoE power supply or upgrade. Check the datasheet for the wattage and PoE budget.

Q: Can one of the Gigabit ports use fibre?
A: Yes. One of the three onboard Gigabit ports supports an SFP in place of RJ-45, sharing the same slot.
