Description

The ISR 2921 is a second-generation modular Integrated Services Router from the Cisco 2900 Series (ISR G2). It is built for branch-office WAN and Internet edge routing, combining security, unified communications (SRST and CME), switching and application services on one modular platform.

This SKU has three onboard 10/100/1000 WAN ports, one of which can use an SFP for fibre connectivity. It has four EHWIC slots, two of which can be used as double-wide, plus one service module slot, one ISM slot and three onboard DSP (PVDM) slots. It ships with 512 MB of DDR2 ECC DRAM, upgradeable to 2 GB, and two external Compact Flash slots. Embedded hardware cryptography handles IPsec VPN acceleration when the Security licence is added, and concurrent services throughput is up to 75 Mbps. It includes the IP Base technology package, with Data, Unified Communications and Security licences available through Cisco Software Activation.

The router accepts EHWIC, HWIC, WIC, VIC and VWIC interface cards, PVDM3 DSP modules, and service modules including SRE and Enhanced EtherSwitch.

Q: Which licence does this SKU ship with?
A: CISCO2921-K9 ships with the IP Base technology package. Data, Unified Communications and Security (SEC or SEC-NPE) licences can be added through Cisco Software Activation.

Q: How does the SFP port work?
A: One of the three Gigabit Ethernet ports can use an SFP for fibre connectivity. Using the SFP port disables the corresponding RJ-45 port.

A: It uses an internal AC power supply by default. Optional upgrades are a PoE-capable integrated supply, a DC power supply and an external Redundant Power Supply (RPS).
