Description

The Cisco ISR 2921 is a second-generation modular branch-office Integrated Services Router from the 2900 Series. It suits small and midsize branch offices that need secure VPN and WAN connectivity, voice and video gateway functions, unified communications, wireless and application services consolidated on a single platform.

The router provides three onboard 10/100/1000 Gigabit Ethernet WAN ports, with one SFP-based port that shares with one of the RJ-45 ports. Expansion includes four EHWIC slots (two double-wide), one service module slot, one ISM slot and three onboard PVDM3 DSP slots. It ships with 512 MB DDR2 ECC DRAM, two external Compact Flash slots and two USB 2.0 ports, and concurrent services WAN performance reaches up to 75 Mbps. Embedded hardware-based encryption acceleration supports IPSec VPN workloads.

This SKU is the HSEC+ bundle. It runs the single Cisco IOS Universal image with the IP Base package, and adds the Security (SEC) technology licence plus the HSEC high-performance encryption licence. It supports EHWIC, HWIC, WIC, VIC and VWIC interface cards, SM and ISM service modules, PVDM3 DSP modules and SFPs on the SFP-capable port.

FAQs

Q: Which licences does this SKU include?
A: It is the HSEC+ bundle. It runs the IP Base technology package and adds the Security (SEC) licence plus the HSEC high-performance encryption licence. Data and Unified Communications licences are separate options.

Q: Can this router provide PoE?
A: PoE is available with the optional AC with PoE power supply (PWR-2921-51-POE). An external Cisco RPS 2300 can be added through the RPS-ADPTR-2921-51 adapter for redundancy or PoE boost.

Q: Which interface cards and modules does it work with?
A: It supports EHWIC, HWIC, WIC, VIC and VWIC interface cards, SM and ISM service modules, PVDM3 DSP modules (PVDM2 via adapter) and Compact Flash up to 4 GB. SFPs can be used in the SFP-capable Gigabit port.

Q: Can I use the SFP port and all three RJ-45 ports at once?
A: No. The SFP-based port shares with one of the RJ-45 ports, so using the SFP disables the corresponding RJ-45 port. That leaves three active Gigabit WAN ports in either configuration.

Q: What WAN performance can I expect?
A: Concurrent services WAN performance is up to 75 Mbps, with embedded hardware acceleration handling IPSec VPN encryption.
