Description

The Cisco 2901 is the entry-level model in the 2900 Series ISR G2, a modular branch-office router with embedded hardware encryption and DSP slots for voice and video. This voice bundle variant pairs the chassis with PVDM3 DSP capacity and the Unified Communications feature set, making it suited to small branch offices that need routing, VPN security and voice services in a single modular chassis.

Onboard connectivity is two 10/100/1000 RJ-45 WAN ports, plus four EHWIC slots (two of which can take double-wide cards), two onboard PVDM DSP slots and one ISM slot. Memory is 512 MB DDR2 ECC DRAM by default, expandable to 2 GB. The Unified Communications licence supports up to 35 Cisco Unified CME sessions and 35 Unified SRST sessions, covering local call control and survivability if the WAN link to the central call manager fails.

The router runs the Cisco IOS Universal image, with technology sets enabled by software licence. Security and data technology sets are separate optional licences. It accepts EHWIC, HWIC, WIC, VIC and VWIC interface cards, ISM modules and PVDM3 DSP modules. There are no service module slots on the 2901.
