Description

The Catalyst 8500 is a 3RU edge router in the Catalyst 8500 Series Edge Platforms range, running Cisco IOS XE. It is built for WAN edge, SD-WAN headend or aggregation, internet or data-centre edge, and high-throughput secure connectivity for large branch, campus and colocation sites.

This C8500-20X6C model provides 20 x 1/10GE SFP+ ports and 6 x 40/100GE QSFP+/QSFP28 ports, and all of them can be enabled at the same time. It is fitted with the maximum 64 GB of DRAM and a 480 GB SSD as standard. Up to four power supply slots are available with at least two populated, and high-efficiency power supplies provide hardware redundancy by default. AC (PWR-CH1-1100WAC) and DC (PWR-CH1-950WDC) power supply options are available.

The platform supports both SD-WAN and autonomous modes, with a programmable software architecture, API support, hardware-anchored secure boot and software redundancy through two IOS processes on a single device. It works with 1/10GE SFP/SFP+ optics and 40/100GE QSFP+/QSFP28 optics, and requires IOS XE 17.10.1 or later.
