Description

The Catalyst 8500 C8500-12X is a 1RU cloud edge router built for WAN aggregation and headend sites, SD-WAN hub deployments, and cloud or data-centre edge routing. It is built around a third-generation Quantum Flow Processor with inline hardware-accelerated IPsec and MACsec encryption, and runs Cisco IOS XE in either autonomous mode or Catalyst SD-WAN controller mode.

This variant provides twelve 1/10GE SFP+ ports and no QSFP ports. In autonomous mode it delivers up to 118 Gbps of IPv4 forwarding throughput and up to 84 Gbps of IPsec throughput at 1400 byte packets, and up to 51 Gbps of SD-WAN IPsec throughput. It ships with 16 GB DRAM, 32 GB eUSB storage and dual redundant hot-swap power supplies, in either 750W AC or 950W DC form. Scale figures include 8000 SD-WAN overlay tunnels, 4000 IPsec SVTI tunnels, 12M NAT sessions, 6M firewall sessions and 4M IPv4 routes.

Memory can be expanded with MEM-C8500-32GB or MEM-C8500-64GB, and storage with SSD-M2SATA-480G. Rack kits C8500-ACCKIT-19, C8500-ACCKIT-23 and C8500-4PT-KIT are available, along with a NEBS level 3 filter and spare fan tray. It requires Cisco IOS XE 17.3.2 or later and uses a Cisco DNA Advantage software subscription under Smart Licensing.

Q: What licensing does the C8500-12X need?
A: Catalyst 8500 Series Edge Platforms initially require a Cisco DNA Advantage software subscription, orderable as L-DNA-C8500. Licensing uses Cisco Smart Licensing and requires a Smart Account.

Q: What power supply options are available?
A: It uses dual redundant hot-swap power supplies. The AC option is PWR-CH1-750WACR (750W, 85 to 264 VAC) and the DC option is PWR-CH1-950WDCR (950W, -40 to -72 VDC).

Q: Can the memory and storage be upgraded?
