Description

The Catalyst 8300 is a 1RU edge router for branch and remote-site deployments built around SD-WAN, SASE and direct internet access with integrated security such as NGFW, IPS, URL filtering and AMP. This voice bundle adds a NIM-PVDM DSP module to the base C8300-1N1S-6T chassis, so it also suits sites that need voice gateway or DSP resources for services like conferencing and transcoding.

The chassis provides six embedded 1 Gigabit Ethernet RJ45 ports, plus one SM slot, one NIM slot and one PIM slot. It ships with 8 GB of DRAM, upgradable to 32 GB, and 16 GB of M.2 USB storage. Cisco rates it at up to 2 Gbps of SD-WAN IPsec throughput and up to 19.7 Gbps of IPv4 forwarding throughput in autonomous mode, with typical power draw of 82 W with no modules and a single power supply.

The platform runs Cisco IOS XE, minimum release 17.3.2, and uses Cisco Smart Licensing under a DNA Software subscription. It is backward compatible with ISR 4000 NIMs and SMs, including NIM-PVDM-32/64/128/256 and SM-X-PVDM modules, and supports PWR-CC1 series 1RU power supplies.

Q: Does this router need a licence or subscription?
A: Catalyst 8300 platforms are offered with a Cisco DNA Software subscription (Catalyst Routing Essentials, Cisco DNA Essentials or Cisco DNA Advantage) and use Cisco Smart Licensing. A High Security (HSEC) licence is needed for full crypto throughput, and it is included with DNA subscriptions.

Q: How does C8300-1N1S-6T-V differ from the base C8300-1N1S-6T?
A: It uses the same 1RU chassis with six 1G RJ45 ports, but it is the voice bundle and adds a NIM-PVDM voice DSP module for voice and DSP resources.

Q: Which power supplies work with this chassis?
A: The 1RU Catalyst 8300 chassis uses PWR-CC1-250WAC, PWR-CC1-400WAC, PWR-CC1-500WAC, PWR-CC1-400WDC or PWR-CC1-400WHV. The chassis itself has no PoE, so PoE needs the 500 W supply plus a PoE-capable NIM such as C-NIM-1M.

Q: Which modules does it support?
A: It supports NIMs such as C-NIM-1X, C-NIM-1M, C-NIM-2T, C-NIM-4X, C-NIM-8T and C-NIM-8M, plus FXS, FXO, BRI, T1 and E1 voice NIMs and NIM-PVDM-32/64/128/256. SMs include SM-X-PVDM-500/1000/2000/3000 and UCS-E modules. Double-wide SMs are supported only on 2RU chassis.

Q: Can the memory be upgraded?
