Description

The Catalyst 8200 C8235-G2 is a medium-branch secure router from the Cisco 8200 Series. It combines routing, SD-WAN and next-generation firewall security on a dedicated secure networking processor, and suits noise-sensitive or space-constrained WAN edge sites. It runs as a desktop unit or can be rack mounted at 2RU.

This model has two 1/10GE SFP+ ports and eight 2.5GE multigigabit RJ-45 ports, split into two WAN, two flex and four LAN ports. A single PIM slot takes cellular pluggables. There is no NIM slot. It has 16 GB of DRAM and 16 GB of storage. Throughput is 19 Gbps forwarding, 5 Gbps IPsec and 4 Gbps SD-WAN at 512B packets. The default 66 W AC adapter can be swapped for a 230 W PoE adapter that gives a 120 W PoE budget across two UPOE+ WAN ports and two PoE+ flex ports.

It ships with perpetual Cisco Routing OS Essentials, with an optional OS Advantage upgrade. The PIM slot works with the P-5GS6-R16SA-GL, P-LTEA7-NA, P-LTEA7-EAL and P-LTEA7-JP cellular modules. IOS XE 17.18.1 or later is required.

Q: Which licence does the C8235-G2 include?
A: It is preloaded with perpetual Cisco Routing OS Essentials, and an optional OS Advantage perpetual upgrade is available. No subscription is included by default, so you choose Cisco Routing Advantage or Cisco WAN Essentials/Advantage separately depending on whether you run traditional routing or Catalyst SD-WAN.

Q: How is the router powered and what is the PoE budget?
A: The default power supply is a 66 W AC external adapter. The optional 230 W AC PoE adapter gives a 120 W PoE budget across the two UPOE+ WAN ports and two PoE+ flex ports. Typical power consumption is 27.11 W.
