Description

The Cisco 8200 Series Secure Router is a fanless, desktop or rack-mountable branch router for medium-sized sites that need traditional routing or an SD-WAN edge with integrated next-generation firewall security. A dedicated secure networking processor handles cryptography and deep packet inspection in hardware, and the fanless chassis suits noise-sensitive or space-constrained locations.

Connectivity is built around two 1/10 GE SFP+ WAN ports and two 2.5 GE mGig RJ-45 WAN ports, one of which supports PoE+. Two further 2.5 GE mGig flex ports and four 1 GE RJ-45 LAN ports complete the front panel, with an RJ-45 out-of-band management port and an RJ-45 console. There is 8 GB of DRAM and 16 GB of storage. Forwarding throughput is 19 Gbps, with 5 Gbps of IPsec, 4 Gbps of SD-WAN and 1 Gbps of threat protection throughput. This model has no NIM or PIM slot.

It ships with Cisco Routing OS Essentials and can be licensed for Routing Advantage or the Cisco Catalyst SD-WAN subscription. Mounting options include rack-mount, wall-mount, DIN-rail and under-desk kits.

Q: What licensing does the C8231-G2 use?
A: It ships preloaded with Cisco Routing OS Essentials. It is eligible for the Cisco Routing Advantage licence for traditional routing and for the Medium-tier Cisco WAN subscription under Cisco Networking Subscription for SD-WAN.

Q: How is the C8231-G2 powered and can it supply PoE?
A: The default is a 66 W AC external adapter with an 85 to 264 VAC input. An optional 115 W AC adapter provides a 30 W PoE budget, and one 2.5 GE mGig WAN port supports PoE+.

Q: Does it accept NIM modules or cellular PIMs?
A: No. The C8231-G2 has no NIM or PIM slot, so the C-NIM and cellular PIM modules used in other 8200 models do not apply. Cellular connectivity would need an external solution.

Q: What mounting options are available?
