Description

The Cisco 1100 Terminal Services Gateway is a 1RU appliance running Cisco IOS XE that gives secure remote management access to network, compute and IoT devices through 32 onboard RS-232 async ports. It suits data centre and cloud service provider out-of-band console access, as well as branch sites that need integrated routing, switching and security with optional LTE WAN.

This 8GB DRAM and 8GB flash model combines a 24-port 10/100/1000 Layer 2 switch with 2 GE/SFP WAN ports and one NIM slot. Each async port supports up to 230 kbps. A 16-port async daughter card slot expands the unit to 48 async ports, and a NIM-16A or NIM-24A takes it to a maximum of 72 async ports in 1RU. Aggregate throughput is 500 Mbps with Cisco Express Forwarding and 100 Mbps with IPsec. It has one USB 3.0 Type-A port, a console and aux port, and does not provide PoE.

The IOS XE universal image includes the IP Base technology package, with optional Application Experience and Security licences and Smart Licensing support. The NIM slot accepts Ethernet, LTE, async and serial NIMs, interchangeable with Cisco 4000 Series ISRs. Power is an internal AC or DC supply, with an optional external AC supply for redundancy.

Q: Which software licences does it use?
A: It ships with the Cisco IOS XE universal image and the IP Base technology package. Optional Application Experience (SL-1100TG-APP-K9) and Security (SL-1100TG-SEC-K9) licences are available, and Smart Licensing is supported.

Q: How many async ports can it support?
A: It has 32 onboard RS-232 async ports. Adding the 16-port daughter card takes it to 48, and a NIM-16A or NIM-24A in the NIM slot allows up to 72 async ports in 1RU.

Q: Does it provide PoE?
A: No. The 24 LAN switch ports are 10/100/1000 without PoE. The unit draws a maximum of 110W from its internal AC or DC power supply.

Q: Which NIMs does the NIM slot accept?
A: It accepts NIM-ES2-4 and NIM-ES2-8 Ethernet, NIM-LTEA-EA and NIM-LTEA-LA LTE, NIM-16A and NIM-24A async, and NIM-1T, NIM-2T and NIM-4T serial modules from IOS XE 17.4.

Q: Can the power supply be made redundant?
A: Yes. The internal AC or DC supply is the primary, and an external AC supply (PWR-4320-AC) can be added as a secondary for power redundancy.
