Description

The ASR 1006-X is a modular 6RU WAN aggregation and Internet edge router chassis from the Cisco ASR 1000 Series. It suits medium and high-end enterprises and service providers that need a high-capacity edge, including a high-throughput SD-WAN headend role on IOS-XE 17.5.1 or later with one RP3 and one ESP200-X.

The chassis provides up to 100 Gbps of total system bandwidth and up to 86 Gbps of IPsec throughput. It has two route processor slots and two ESP slots for hardware redundancy, plus two line card slots at 200 Gbps each, 8 SPA slots and 4 EPA slots. Power is supplied by dual power supplies by default, expandable to six with N+1 redundancy, in 1100W AC or 950W DC options, with no mixing of AC and DC. Airflow is front-to-back through two field-replaceable fan trays.

It works with ASR1000-RP2 and RP3 route processors, ESP40, ESP100, ESP100-X, ESP200 and ESP200-X forwarding processors, and SIP40, MIP100 and fixed Ethernet line cards. Software is licensed through Cisco DNA subscription and Smart Licensing.

FAQs

Q: Which route processors and ESPs does the ASR 1006-X support?
A: It supports ASR1000-RP2 and ASR1000-RP3 route processors, and ASR1000-ESP40, ESP100, ESP100-X, ESP200 and ESP200-X embedded services processors. Two slots of each allow hardware redundancy.

Q: Which line cards can be installed?
A: The two line card slots take ASR1000-SIP40 and ASR1000-MIP100 carriers for SPAs and EPAs, as well as fixed Ethernet line cards such as the ASR1000-2T+20X1GE and ASR1000-6TGE.

Q: What power supply options are available?
A: The chassis takes 1100W AC or 950W DC power supplies. It uses two by default and can be expanded to six for N+1 redundancy. AC and DC supplies cannot be mixed.

Q: How is software licensed on this chassis?
A: Software is licensed through Cisco DNA subscription (DNA Advantage or DNA Premier), Cisco Smart Licensing and Cisco ONE Software. Throughput on the -X platforms can be increased with a licence upgrade.

Q: Can it be used as an SD-WAN headend?
A: Yes. With IOS-XE 17.5.1 or later it can act as a high-throughput SD-WAN headend aggregation router using one RP3 and one ESP200-X, without intra-chassis redundancy.
