Description

The ASR 1006 is a modular 6-slot chassis from the Cisco ASR 1000 Series Aggregation Services Routers, built for service-provider and enterprise WAN aggregation, WAN edge and data-centre interconnect. It runs Cisco IOS XE and is designed for deployments that need hardware and software redundancy, with services such as firewall, NAT, IPsec, CUBE and DCI handled by the Embedded Services Processor.

The chassis provides 2 route processor slots and 2 ESP slots for hardware redundancy, plus 3 SIP slots that together support 12 Shared Port Adapter slots. This SKU is the Dual P/S chassis, so it is configured with dual power supplies. It has no built-in Gigabit or 10 Gigabit Ethernet ports, so connectivity comes from the SIPs and SPAs you install. Memory defaults to 4 GB DRAM with an RP1 or 8 GB DRAM with an RP2. The ASR 1006 supports ISSU and stateful intrachassis redundancy.

It takes ASR1000-RP1 and RP2 route processors, ASR1000-ESP10, ESP40 and ESP100 ESPs, ASR1000-SIP10 and SIP40 SIPs, and compatible SPAs. Software licensing on the ASR 1000 family uses Cisco DNA subscriptions through Smart Licensing, and the licence depends on the RP, ESP and software image selected.
