Description

The ASR1004 is a 4 RU modular chassis in the Cisco ASR 1000 Series Aggregation Services Routers family. It is built for WAN aggregation, enterprise and service provider edge, and branch aggregation roles, where integrated services such as firewall, NAT, encryption and voice run alongside high-performance routing on Cisco IOS XE.

The chassis has one Embedded Services Processor (ESP) slot, one Route Processor (RP) slot and two SIP slots that host up to eight Shared Port Adapters. There are no built-in Ethernet ports, so connectivity comes from the SPAs and SIPs you fit. Default memory is 4 GB DRAM with the RP1 or 8 GB DRAM with the RP2. Two rear-accessed power supply bays take either AC or -48 VDC power supplies, and software redundancy runs redundant IOS XE instances. This listing covers the dual power supply bay, AC chassis.

It works with ASR 1000 Series ESP10 and ESP-40 forwarding engines, RP1 and RP2 route processors, ASR1000-SIP10 and ASR1000-SIP-40 SIPs and Shared Port Adapters. FAQs

Q: Does the ASR1004 chassis need a licence?
A: The chassis itself needs no licence. Features and throughput are enabled through Cisco IOS XE feature licences and technology packages, so check the ASR 1000 ordering guide for the tier that matches your ESP and RP.

Q: Does it have built-in Ethernet ports?
A: No. Ports come from the Shared Port Adapters installed in the SIPs. The two SIP slots support up to eight SPA slots in total.

Q: What power supplies does it take?
A: Two power supply bays take either two AC or two -48 VDC power supplies, such as ASR1004-PWR-AC or ASR1004-PWR-DC. A -48 VDC feed needs a 40 A circuit breaker.

Q: Which cards and processors does it work with?
A: It works with ASR 1000 Series ESPs such as ASR1000-ESP10 and ASR1000-ESP-40, RP1 and RP2 route processors, ASR1000-SIP10 and ASR1000-SIP-40 SIPs and Shared Port Adapters.

Q: Is ISSU supported on the ASR1004?
A: No. In-Service Software Upgrade is not supported on the ASR 1004, though it does provide software redundancy with redundant IOS XE instances.
