Description

The ASR 1002-X is a fixed-chassis, 2RU WAN aggregation router from the Cisco ASR 1000 Series. The route processor, Embedded Services Processor and interface processor are integrated into the chassis, and it runs Cisco IOS XE. It suits enterprise WAN edge roles, IPsec VPN aggregation and headend, branch-office and managed CPE deployments, and service provider edge use.

This SKU is the 5 Gbps throughput VPN/K9 (crypto) bundle. The chassis provides 6 built-in Gigabit Ethernet SFP ports and 3 Shared Port Adapter slots, with no built-in 10 Gigabit Ethernet ports. It ships with 4 GB of DRAM shared across the route processor, ESP and SIP, and it offers software redundancy through redundant instances of Cisco IOS XE. As a '-X' platform, throughput is raised by changing the software licence rather than the hardware. ASR 1000 services are enabled with feature licences, using an IOS XE Universal package plus a technology package.

The three SPA slots accept Cisco Shared Port Adapters. The chassis has no EPA slot and no NIM slot.

A: Yes. ASR 1000 services are activated with feature licences, using an IOS XE Universal package plus one technology package: IP Base, Advanced IP Services or Advanced Services. Cisco DNA subscriptions and Smart Licensing are also supported.
