Description

The ASR 1002-X is a 2RU aggregation services router from the Cisco ASR 1000 Series, built for managed CPE and WAN edge roles, IPsec VPN aggregation and QoS-heavy branch or small headend deployments. The route processor, ESP and SIP are integrated into the chassis, and the router runs Cisco IOS XE with the Cisco Flow Processor handling QoS, cryptography and ACLs in hardware.

This SKU is the 36G throughput bundle with the VPN/K9 crypto image. It provides 6 built-in Gigabit Ethernet SFP ports and 3 SPA slots, backed by a quad-core route processor and 4 GB of default DRAM shared across the route processor, ESP and SIP. Software redundancy runs redundant IOS XE instances for high availability. The -X models scale throughput through a software licence change rather than a hardware swap, so capacity can be raised as demand grows.

The 3 SPA slots accept existing Cisco Shared Port Adapters, which allows current SPA investments to be reused. The chassis has no NIM or Ethernet port adapter slots.
