Description

The ASR 1002-X is a 2RU WAN aggregation router from the Cisco ASR 1000 Series, running IOS XE. The route processor, Embedded Services Processor and SIP are built into the chassis, which makes it a compact option for enterprise WAN edge, data centre edge, branch aggregation and IPsec VPN headend roles. It also suits service provider POP and L3VPN provider-edge deployments, and can act as an SD-WAN edge on IOS XE.

This SKU is the 36G bundle with 6 built-in Gigabit Ethernet SFP ports and 2x 10 Gigabit Ethernet SFP+ ports, licensed at the IP Base technology package. The throughput tier on the -X models is set by software licence, so capacity can grow without a hardware change. A quad-core route processor and 4 GB of DRAM shared across the route processor, ESP and SIP handle the control and forwarding planes, and three SPA slots accept Cisco Shared Port Adapters for extra interface options.

The ASR 1000 family needs one IOS XE Universal image and one technology package, with IP Base, Advanced IP Services and Advanced Services available. Feature licences are Right-To-Use, and Cisco DNA subscriptions and Smart Licensing are also supported. The chassis does not take Ethernet port adapters or network interface modules, and ISSU is not supported.

Q: Which licence does this ASR 1002-X SKU carry?
A: This SKU is the IP Base bundle at the 36G throughput tier. An ASR 1000 router runs one IOS XE Universal image plus one technology package, and feature licences are Right-To-Use.

Q: Can the throughput be increased later?
A: Yes. On the -X models the throughput tier is raised through a software licence change rather than a hardware change. This SKU is the 36G tier.

Q: What interface modules does it accept?
A: It has three SPA slots for Cisco Shared Port Adapters. It does not accept Ethernet port adapters or network interface modules.

Q: What optics do the built-in ports use?
A: The 6 built-in Gigabit Ethernet ports use SFP optics and the 2 10 Gigabit Ethernet ports use SFP+ optics.

Q: Does the ASR 1002-X support ISSU?
