Description

The ASR 1002-X is a fixed-configuration, 2RU aggregation services router from the Cisco ASR 1000 family, running Cisco IOS XE. It suits WAN aggregation and SD-WAN edge roles, enterprise and service provider edge or L3VPN PE deployments, Internet edge with firewall, NAT and encryption, and Session Border Controller (Cisco Unified Border Element) use.

This SKU includes the 36 Gbps throughput licence and the K9 image, which enables AES crypto. The route processor, ESP and SIP are integrated in the chassis, with a quad-core route processor and 4 GB of default DRAM shared across them. Connectivity comes from 6 built-in Gigabit Ethernet SFP ports plus 3 Shared Port Adapter slots. Throughput on the 1002-X is raised by changing the software licence rather than replacing hardware. Feature licences and technology packages are sold separately.

The chassis uses dual AC or DC power supplies and runs redundant instances of IOS XE for software redundancy. It reuses Cisco SPAs from the wider ASR 1000 range in its three SPA slots.
