Description

The ASR 1002-X is a 2RU fixed-chassis aggregation services router from the ASR 1000 series, built for enterprise WAN edge, branch and campus aggregation, VPN and IPsec head-end roles, and service provider edge deployments. It integrates the route processor, embedded services processor and SPA interface processor in one compact chassis running Cisco IOS XE.

This SKU is the 20G VPN bundle. System throughput is licensed to 20 Gbps, upgraded from the 5 Gbps default ESP rate through licence FLSA1-2X-5-20G, so performance scales by software rather than a hardware swap. The chassis has 6 built-in Gigabit Ethernet SFP ports and 3 SPA slots, with a quad-core route processor, 4 GB DRAM by default (upgradable to 8 or 16 GB) and 8 GB flash. Dual power supplies are fitted in the standard AC configuration.

The bundle pairs the Universal K9 image (SASR1K2XUK9-XYS) with the AES technology package licence (FLASR1-AES) and the IPS feature licence (FLSA1-2X-IPS4G) for hardware-based crypto in VPN deployments. The 3 SPA slots accept Cisco ASR 1000 shared port adapters, and throughput can later be raised to 36 Gbps with a further performance licence.

FAQs

Q: What licences are part of this bundle?
A: The bundle covers the Universal K9 image (SASR1K2XUK9-XYS), the AES technology package licence (FLASR1-AES), the 5G-to-20G performance upgrade licence (FLSA1-2X-5-20G) and the IPS feature licence (FLSA1-2X-IPS4G). Other feature licences are ordered separately.

Q: How does this differ from the default ASR 1002-X?
A: The default ESP runs at 5 Gbps. This SKU includes the performance licence that raises system throughput to 20 Gbps, plus the K9 crypto image and AES package for VPN use.

A: Yes. The ESP can be upgraded to 36 Gbps with a further software-activated performance licence, with no hardware change.

Q: What power does the router use?
A: It runs on dual AC power supplies (ASR1002-PWR-AC) in the standard configuration. Maximum consumption is 560 W AC or 590 W DC, with a maximum output of 470 W.

Q: What interfaces does it support?
