Description

The ASR 1002-X is a 2RU aggregation services router from the Cisco ASR 1000 series, running IOS XE with the route processor, ESP and SIP integrated into the chassis. It suits enterprise WAN edge, VPN and IPsec headend, internet edge with firewall and NAT, and SD-WAN branch or aggregation roles, as well as service provider edge work such as L3VPN and broadband aggregation.

This SKU is the 10G throughput tier with the VPN K9 crypto feature set, and it can run in Cisco SD-WAN mode. It has 6 built-in Gigabit Ethernet SFP ports and 3 SPA slots, with 4 GB of default DRAM shared across the route processor, ESP and SIP. The integrated route processor uses a quad-core processor, and the chassis supports software redundancy. As an -X model, its throughput can be raised further through upgrade licences.

It takes shared port adapters in its 3 SPA slots and has no network interface module slot or built-in 10 Gigabit Ethernet ports. SD-WAN operation requires IOS XE. Features such as ThousandEyes integration need 8 GB of DRAM and 8 GB of storage, so memory would need to be upgraded from the default 4 GB.
