Description

The ASR 9902 is a compact 2RU router in the ASR 9000 Series, built for service provider and enterprise edge roles. It delivers up to 800 Gbps of nonblocking capacity and runs Cisco IOS XR, the same software image used across the wider ASR 9000 family. Typical deployments include business PE, metro aggregation, cloud edge, internet peering, Data Center Interconnect, BNG and 4G/5G mobile edge.

The fixed port layout provides 2 QSFP-DD and 6 QSFP28 ports supporting 10/40/100GbE, 16 dual-rate SFP28 ports for 10/25GbE, and 24 SFP+ ports for 10GbE LAN or WAN OTN. The chassis has dual redundant route processors with 32GB DDR4 memory, three redundant front-to-back fans, and bays for two 1.6 kW hot-swap power modules in 1+1 redundancy. MACsec is available on all ports. This SKU is the Traditional Business Model chassis, which is separate from the ASR-9902-FC Flexible Consumption chassis.

Power modules are PWR-1.6KW-AC or PWR-1.6KW-DC, and AC and DC modules cannot be mixed in one chassis. Optics are shared with the ASR 9000 modular and compact chassis, and hardware timing support covers IEEE 1588, SyncE and GPS/BITS for mobile edge synchronisation.

Q: What is the difference between ASR-9902 and ASR-9902-FC?
A: ASR-9902 is the Traditional Business Model chassis. ASR-9902-FC is the Flexible Consumption chassis, which uses Essentials, Advantage and Premier software tiers licensed per 100G/400G.

Q: What software and licensing does the ASR-9902 use?
A: It runs Cisco IOS XR. Optional Smart or RTU licences cover features such as VRFs, CGN, advanced optics, mobile, lawful intercept and nV satellite clients.

Q: Which power modules does it take?
A: It takes up to two 1.6 kW hot-swap modules, either PWR-1.6KW-AC or PWR-1.6KW-DC, in 1+1 redundancy. AC and DC modules cannot be mixed in the same chassis.
