Description

The ASR 9901 is a compact Provider Edge router from the Cisco ASR 9000 Series, built in a 2RU chassis with an integrated route switch processor. It is aimed at large-scale aggregation, Data Center Interconnect, Satellite nV System mode, Layer 2 and Layer 3 VPN services, mobile backhaul transport and Broadband Network Gateway deployments.

The chassis provides 456 Gbps of nonblocking full-duplex fabric capacity and 42 integrated ports: 16 x 1GE, 24 x 1/10GE dual-rate and 2 x 100GE. The integrated RSP has a 4-core 2.4 GHz Intel CPU and 32 GB of RAM. This SKU is sold under the Cisco IOS XR Flexible Consumption Model, with 100G out of 456G capacity included in the base bundle. Software is licensed per 100G through Edge Essentials or Edge Advantage RTU licences with matching SIA subscriptions. Timing support includes GPS input for Stratum-1 clocking, BITS and SSU/DTI ports, and hardware-based IEEE 1588.

The router runs Cisco IOS XR 64-bit and uses A9K-1600W-AC or A9K-1600W-DC power supplies with redundant fan trays. Companion parts include the ASR-9901-FAN fan tray and the ASR-9901-2P-KIT and ASR-9901-4P-KIT mounting kits for 19 and 23 inch racks.
