Description

The ASR 920 24SZ-M is a compact 1RU Carrier Ethernet aggregation router from the Cisco ASR 920 Series. It is built for mobile backhaul, metro Ethernet access, broadband aggregation and business services at remote sites, smaller aggregation points and outdoor cabinets.

This model provides 24 x 1GE SFP ports and 4 x 10GE SFP+ ports, with modular, field-replaceable power supplies. The ASR 920 family runs Cisco IOS XE on a Carrier Ethernet ASIC with hierarchical QoS, MPLS, L2VPN, L3VPN, VPLS and H-VPLS. Timing is handled through BITS, 1PPS and ToD interfaces, SyncE and IEEE 1588, which suits mobile and TDM synchronisation requirements.

The family uses a pay-as-you-grow licensing model to enable additional ports and features such as MPLS. It supports a wide range of Cisco SFP and SFP+ optics, including 1000BASE and 10G SFP+ variants, and is designed for a temperature-hardened operating range.

FAQs

Q: Does the ASR 920 family require licensing?
A: The ASR 920 family uses a pay-as-you-grow model to enable additional 1GE and 10GE ports and features such as MPLS. Confirm the licence tier you need against the Cisco ordering guide for your deployment.

Q: What power options does this router use?
A: The -M suffix indicates modular power supplies, which can be AC (85 to 264V AC) or DC (-19.2 to -72V DC). The family supports two power supplies for redundancy.

Q: Which optics work with the 1G and 10G ports?
A: The family supports Cisco 1000BASE SFPs such as GLC-SX-MMD, GLC-LH-SMD, GLC-ZX-SMD and GLC-BX-D/U, plus 10G SFP+ modules such as SFP-10G-SR, SFP-10G-LR, SFP-10G-ER and SFP-10G-ZR, as well as SFP-H10GB-CUxM DAC cables.

Q: What rack mount options are available?
A: The ASR 920 family supports ETSI, 19-inch and 23-inch rack-mount kits, ordered as A920-RCKMT-ETSI, A920-RCKMT-19 and A920-RCKMT-23.

Q: Can it provide clock synchronisation for mobile networks?
A: Yes. It supports BITS, 1PPS and ToD interfaces along with SyncE and IEEE 1588, and can act as the clock source for TDM, SDH/SONET and SyncE interfaces.
