Description

The ASR 9001-S is a compact 2RU aggregation services router from the Cisco ASR 9000 family, built for service provider edge and Carrier Ethernet aggregation. It suits business L2VPN and L3VPN services, IPTV, CDN delivery, mobile backhaul and broadband network gateway roles, and can also run as a dedicated route-reflector appliance. It runs Cisco IOS XR Software, the same operating system image used across the ASR 9000 range.

This 60G base SKU provides 60 Gbps of nonblocking full-duplex fabric capacity with two of the four integrated 10 Gigabit Ethernet SFP+ ports enabled, plus two modular port adapter bays that accept 1GE, 10GE and 40GE adapters. An integrated route switch processor carries 8 GB of RAM. Timing options include BITS and SSU inputs, GPS input for Stratum-1 clocking and hardware-based IEEE 1588 support. Capacity can be raised to 120 Gbps with licence A9K-9001-120G-LIC, which also enables the remaining two 10GE SFP+ ports and the second adapter bay.

Power is supplied by redundant AC or DC power entry modules, with typical consumption of 375 W and a maximum of 425 W. Compatible port adapters include the A9K-MPA-20x1GE, A9K-MPA-2x10GE, A9K-MPA-4x10GE and A9K-MPA-1x40GE.

Q: Does the ASR 9001-S need a licence to reach 120G?
A: Yes. This SKU ships at 60G with two 10GE SFP+ ports enabled. Licence A9K-9001-120G-LIC raises capacity to 120 Gbps and enables the other two 10GE SFP+ ports and the second port adapter bay.

Q: Which port adapters work with the ASR 9001-S?
A: The A9K-MPA-20x1GE, A9K-MPA-2x10GE, A9K-MPA-4x10GE and A9K-MPA-1x40GE modular port adapters. The 40GE adapter needs IOS XR 4.2.3 or later, and the others need 4.2.1 or later.
