Description

The ASR 9000v is a compact, environmentally hardened, front-access extension shelf for the Cisco ASR 9000 Series. It uses nV (network virtualisation) technology to bring ASR 9000 services to access locations such as remote points of presence, cabinets and non-temperature-controlled buildings, which suits service provider and telco DC-powered environments.

This DC Power ETSI Chassis (DC-E) variant provides 44 SFP ports supporting 10, 100 and 1000 Mbps, plus 4 SFP+ 10GE pluggable ports. It has two redundant ETSI DC inputs (DC-A and DC-B) accepting -36V to -74V DC, with nominal power of 159 W and a maximum of 210 W. The chassis is rated for operation from -40 C to +65 C and is NEBS compliant to GR-1089 Issue 5 and GR-63 Issue 3. EOBC Ethernet management and Console serial ports are provided.

The shelf operates as a satellite to an ASR 9000 Series host running Cisco IOS XR, which delivers its services and features, so licensing follows the host. Pluggable SFP and SFP+ optics are listed in the Cisco Optical Pluggable Modules for ASR 9000v Data Sheet, and the front-accessed fan tray spare is ASR-9000V-FAN=.

- Deployable adjacent to or remotely from the host, including over DWDM
- Connects to multiple redundant ASR 9000 hosts for resiliency against shelf, access port and fabric port failures
- Environmentally hardened for cabinets and non-temperature-controlled buildings
- Fully front-access design, wall-mountable or mountable back-to-back
- Ultra-low power draw and small footprint
- Supported in the ASR 9000 Series Craft Tool (ACT) and Cisco Prime for Service Providers

FAQs

Q: Does the ASR 9000v need its own licence?
A: No separate licence is listed for the shelf. Features and services come from the ASR 9000 Series host running Cisco IOS XR, so licensing follows the host.

Q: Can it be used as a standalone router?
A: No. It operates as an nV satellite and must be connected to an ASR 9000 Series host, which provides its services and management.

Q: What power does the DC-E chassis use?
A: It has two redundant ETSI DC inputs, DC-A and DC-B, accepting -36V to -74V DC. Nominal draw is 159 W with a maximum of 210 W.

Q: Which optics does it use?
A: The 44 SFP ports and 4 SFP+ ports take pluggable optics listed in the Cisco Optical Pluggable Modules for ASR 9000v Data Sheet.

Q: How does this SKU differ from the ASR 9000v-V2?
A: This is the original ASR 9000v DC ETSI chassis (DC-E). The ASR 9000v-V2 (A9KV-V2-DC-E) is a different SKU and requires IOS-XR 5.2.2 or later.
