Description

The Cisco 8818-SYS is an 18-slot modular router chassis from the Cisco 8800 Series, built on Cisco Silicon One and running IOS XR. It is designed for core, peering, data centre interconnect and high-capacity aggregation, and can also run SONiC for data centre fabric and AI/ML networking.

The 33 RU chassis provides 18 line card slots, 2 route processor slots with 1+1 redundancy, 8 fabric module slots and 4 fan module slots. System throughput reaches 259.2 Tbps with 400G line cards and 518.4 Tbps with 800G line cards, with typical system power of 22 kW and 33.4 kW respectively. Up to 24 power supply slots are available, and airflow is front-to-rear.

It supports Silicon One Q100, Q200, P100 and P200 line cards, route processors 8800-RP and 8800-RP2, fabric modules 8818-FC, 8818-FC0 and 8818-FC1, and fan trays 8818-FAN and 8818-FAN-V2. Cooling, power, route processors and switch fabric are all redundant and hot swappable.

FAQs

Q: What licensing does the 8818-SYS use?
A: Software is licensed under Cisco Smart Licensing, which requires a Smart Account on Cisco License Central. IOS XR on the 8000 series is also covered by the Cisco IOS XR Flexible Consumption Model.

Q: What power does the chassis need?
A: It uses redundant, hot-swappable AC or DC power supplies, with up to 24 power supply slots. HVAC/HVDC modules accept 180-305 VAC and 192-400 VDC, and DC supplies accept a nominal 48 V. Typical system power is 22 kW with 400G line cards and 33.4 kW with 800G line cards.

Q: Which route processors, fabric modules and fan trays does it support?
A: It supports route processors 8800-RP and 8800-RP2, fabric modules 8818-FC (Q100), 8818-FC0 (Q200) and 8818-FC1 (F100), and fan trays 8818-FAN and 8818-FAN-V2.

Q: Which line cards can be installed?
A: It accepts Silicon One Q100, Q200, P100 and P200 based line cards, such as the 88-LC0-36FH, 88-LC0-36FH-M, 88-LC0-34H14FH and 36x800G P200 cards. Mixed generations can share the chassis.

Q: What is the airflow direction?
A: Airflow is front-to-rear, and the chassis uses an internal variable-speed fan system with four fan module slots.
