Description

The Cisco 8711-48Z-M is a 1RU fixed-port router from the Cisco 8700 family, part of the Cisco 8000 Series built on Cisco Silicon One. It runs Cisco IOS XR and is positioned for metro aggregation and edge networks, including business edge, residential aggregation, 5G mobile backhaul, provider core and internet peering.

The system delivers 5.6 Tbps of throughput through 6x QSFP56-DD (400G) ports, 4x QSFP56 (200G) ports and 48x SFP56 ports that support 50G, 25G, 10G and 1G rates. Breakout is supported in 4x100G, 2x100G, 4x25G and 4x10G modes, and the platform is Routed Optical Network ready with support for 400G DCO optics. A 6-core x86 CPU at 2.3 GHz is backed by 64 GB of DRAM and a 480 GB SSD. Line-rate LAN MACsec encryption is available on all ports, and timing support covers PTP Class C, SyncE and GNSS. Typical system power is 350 W without optics.

The chassis takes two field-replaceable power supplies in 1+1 redundancy, in AC or DC options, and a 5+1 redundant fan tray set. It works with SFP, SFP+, SFP28, QSFP+, SFP56, QSFP28, QSFP56, QSFP28-DD and QSFP56-DD optics, as well as copper DAC and AOC cables. Minimum software is Cisco IOS XR 25.4.1.

Q: What software does the 8711-48Z-M run and does it need a licence?
A: It runs Cisco IOS XR, release 25.4.1 or later. Software is licensed separately and is not node-locked to the hardware. Options include Flexible Consumption Model (FCM 2.0) tiers, Essential, Advantage and Premium, as well as perpetual licences registered through Cisco Smart Software Central.
