Description

The Arista 7020R is a 1RU data centre switch built for dedicated server leaf roles in a leaf-spine design, as well as hyper-converged infrastructure and high-performance storage networks. It runs Arista EOS and forwards Layer 2 and Layer 3 traffic at wire speed, with a deep 3GB packet buffer using Virtual Output Queues to avoid head-of-line blocking.

This DCS-7020SR-24C2-R model provides 24 x 1/10GbE SFP+ ports and 2 x 100G QSFP100 uplinks, which can be broken out to 4x10G, 4x25G or 40G modes. Switching throughput is 880 Gbps at 300 Mpps, with latency from 3.8 microseconds. It uses rear-to-front airflow with two hot-swap AC power supplies in a 1+1 arrangement and three hot-swap fans in an N+1 arrangement. Typical power draw is 95W and maximum is 105W. IPSec is not supported on this model.

The SFP+ ports accept 10GBASE-CR DAC, AOC, SR, LR, ER, ZR and DWDM optics as well as 1GbE SX/LX and 100/1000BASE-T modules, while the QSFP100 ports support 100G and 40G optics and cables. The default EOS image provides a broad Layer 2 feature set, and advanced routing, monitoring and virtualisation features need optional Group 1 EOS feature licences.

FAQs

Q: Does this switch need a licence to run?
A: It runs Arista EOS and the default image provides a broad Layer 2 feature set. Advanced features such as BGP, OSPF, ISIS, VXLAN, ZTP and LANZ need optional Group 1 EOS licences, for example LIC-FIX-1-E, LIC-FIX-1-Z and LIC-FIX-1-V.

Q: What optics and cables work in the SFP+ and QSFP100 ports?
A: The SFP+ ports support 10GBASE-CR DAC, AOC, SR, LR, ER, ZR and DWDM optics, plus 1GbE SX/LX and 100/1000BASE-T. The QSFP100 ports support 100GBASE optics such as SR4, LR4, CWDM4 and PSM4, 40G QSFP+ optics and cables, and 4x10G or 25G breakout cables.

Q: What power supplies does this model use?
A: It uses two PWR-500AC hot-swap AC supplies (100-240VAC, 50/60Hz) in a 1+1 redundant arrangement. The replacement supply for rear-to-front airflow is PWR-500AC-R.

Q: How does the -R model differ from other 7020R variants?
A: The -R suffix means rear-to-front airflow with fan module FAN-7000-R. This SKU has 24 SFP+ ports, 2 x 100G QSFP100 uplinks and two AC supplies, and it does not support IPSec.

Q: What EOS version does it require?
A: The minimum supported EOS release is 4.21.0. The switch can be managed with Arista CloudVision.
