Description

The Cisco VG450 is a rack-mount analog voice gateway running Cisco IOS-XE, built to connect analog phones, fax machines, modems and speakerphones to Cisco Unified Communications Manager or UCM Express. It suits centralised, high-concentration analog line deployments where existing analog endpoints need to stay in service while the network moves to IP telephony, and it can augment an ISR environment running Cisco Unified Communications Manager Express.

This 144 FXS bundle uses two SM-X-72FXS double-wide modules (RJ-21) to deliver 144 FXS ports in a single 3RU chassis, set apart from the 72 FXS and chassis-only VG450 variants. Each module supports FXS-E extended loop operation, and the gateway handles loop-start, ground-start and DID signalling. Four 10/100/1000 Ethernet LAN ports can each use SFP-based fibre in place of RJ-45. The chassis ships with 8GB DDR4 DRAM and 8GB flash, expandable to 32GB of each, and has a 100-240 VAC auto-ranging supply rated to 1000W with no PoE.

Call control is supported on Cisco UCM 10.5.2 (SU8), 11.5.1SU6 or higher, or 12.0.1SU2 or higher, with UCM Express on CUCME versions compatible with IOS-XE 16.12.1 or later. Third-party call control is supported through SIP and H.323 IP trunks. The mix-and-match NIM slot accepts analog (FXO, FXS, E&M, BRI) and T1/E1 voice NIMs.

Q: Does the VG450 144 FXS need a separate licence?
A: No separate licence is stated in the datasheet. The gateway runs Cisco IOS-XE. CUBE, CUCME/SRST and DSP-farm functions are not natively supported and are only available on ISR4000.
